Plant Type: Hardy Perennial

Description: Vigaorous, nearly shrub-sized perennial that looks smells, and tastes much like celery but is larger, stronger, and sweeter. Valuable as background planting in  garden. Greenish-yellow flowers appear in late summer in flat-topped clusters above foliage. Unless seeds are desired, pinch flowers off as they appear to prevent entire plant from yellowing. Ancient herbalists recommended lovage as cure for ague and intestinal disorders.  Height 3-4 ' Spread 2-3'

Uses: Tender young leaves add rich celerylike flavor to soups, stews, salads, and sauces. Dried seeds, whole or ground, can be used in same way. Blanch stem bases and eat as you would celery.

Propagating: Harvest  seeds in autumn when ripe. Cover lightly with soil. In springthin seedlings to about 2' apart.
